How to Become a Mystery Shopper
A good mystery shopper must be reliable, observant, organised, objective, flexible, honest and thorough. Their role is not to seek out the negatives or find fault but is to observe, report accurately on their experience and record what occurred and what didn’t occur during the visit. They must follows the protocol strictly, never leads the conversation, is observant without being obvious, and does not compare stores.
Becoming a Mystery Shopper involves the following steps:
- Step 1: Send your CV to
info@customerperceptions.ie with a covering lettering outlining why you want
to become a Mystery Shopper. Once we approve your application, we will send login
details so that you can register on our database.
- Step 2:You must score at least 90% on our Level 1 test on-line training programme, before work can be assigned to you.
- Step 3: Activate your on-line account, by completing the relevant
information in the shopper profile.
- Step 4: Our Assessor Manager will then assign jobs, and notify
you of the location of the Mystery Shopping.
- Step 5: When you log onto the database, the job will appear against
your name. Open and read the guidelines for this particular shop, and access the
on-line questionnaire. It is critical you follow the guidelines accurately in order to complete a successful mystery shop.
- Step 6: Once you fully understand the guidelines and know what
is expected from this assignment, you may conduct the assessment. The on-line report
must be completed within 24 hours. Please keep all your notes in a safe place as
we may contact you for clarification or further information.
A Good Mystery Shopper Must Be:
- Reliable
- Observant

- Honest
- Thorough
A Good Mystery Shopper:
- Reports on their experience / visit objectively and is not continually negative or trying to find fault (with our a valid reason).
- Documents only what they observe, and not what they thought should have been.
- Sticks to the guidelines and does not deviate from the scenario in use.
- Never leads the conversation.
- Is observant without being obvious.
- Does not compare stores.
